I have been debating with a RoR developer, who was supposed to help my company with some php development. He can only work in frameworks an tend to use only opinionated frameworks.
So this article comes, for me, at the right time.
I don't mind framework, but I am also a practitioner of "the right tool for the right job"
Last month I had a meeting with a senior expert from facebook, he told me, that for him, not being able to work in frameworks is more important than being able to only develop using frameworks. Frameworks can be good for projects with many developers, since it "forces" them to use the same style.
And i do agree that its very likely that wordpress really boosted the popularity of php.
