The oldest directory of PHP user groups
phpusergroups.org/
..seems to be dying. With two forms on the site, little content, no directory listing and broken email it is hard to say it is a major group. Yes, it is old but that's it, nothing more.

Alex
PS. The link to Zend groups is not working.

I am not aware if phpusergroups.org is really dying. Maybe you are talking of problems that the maintainers are not aware. In that case, maybe they can fix it if they see this message.

Anyway, I thought I should give credit to that site precisely because it was the first initiative I remember that focused on promoting user groups.

Also I wanted to make clear that the PHPClasses user groups diffusion initiative is not meant to be a competitor of any other similar initiative, but rather an initiative that is rowing in the same direction.

As for the Zend groups link, it works for me. Or do you mean that it is something else in that page that does not work?

Yes, that link seems to work for me now. It was probably a temporary problem.

As for the PHP groups sites I think it is a very good initiative since it offers additional information for promoting the local groups in other sites and therefore to have one more reason to keep the local groups alive.

The phpusergroups.org site unfortunately looks like an unfinished tool because it lacks basic functions such as confirmations after submitting forms, no links to "my account" or "forgot password", no clear directions about registering in their directory and no directory pages, etc. They should have better install a freeware directory script or blog script which would be more helpful in monetizing their PR7 (which seems to be the only goal with it anyway).

I don't know for sure because I never contacted the maintainers, but I guess that is because it is a project done by volunteers that never could justify the time it takes to fully develop the site.
